Ha’iku Fire Station

Background

The insurance industry establishes the rates for your home owner’s policy and your fire
protection based on the distance fire fighters have to travel to reach your property. If you live
within a 5 mile radius of a fire station you may have better and less expensive policy protection. The
HCA has been urging the county to locate the Haiku fire station to a parcel that will expand the 5 mile
radius to include more residents and reduce the costs of developing the asset.

The accompanying map illustrates 5 mile (radius) circles potential sites for a fire station.
The County of Maui is in the planning process to establish a new fire station for Haiku.
Their initial choice of location was to place it on county-owned property located on Hana
Highway and East Kuiaha Rd. The site is the home of a former pineapple grower and mushroom
farmer.

Current Status

Haiku Community Association hosted a meeting on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 to hear and discuss the county’s plans to build a fire station here in Haiku. This story was picked up by the Maui News which wrote an article on it, here. If you missed the meeting, a video recording of it can be found here.

Older news…..

Mayor Victorino and our Councilman Mike Molina, working hand in hand, have directed
substantial funding be spent for consultants to examine locations.
The parcel at the south east corner of the intersection of Hana Highway and Holokai Road is the
optimal site being urged by the HCA on behalf of the Haiku community.
Thanks to strong support from Councilman Mike Molina the Consultant’s will now do an
engineering study and evaluate the Holokai Rd. site.

Your HCA Board will post progress on this website.
